Sen. Collins is upset that recent television ads have criticized her voting last week.
Collins, R-Maine, voted against an emergency appropriations bill that authorized $97.5 billion for the Defense Department. The problem with the bill -- in her eyes, was that it would require the gradual withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. The bill passed 51-47.
This is the same vote that I noted with disapproval last week here.
Collins said she voted against the bill because the president had vowed to veto it and if he did, it would "delay providing essential funds for our combat troops."
Give me a break! This is politics, pure and simple.
Senator Collins, this bill immediately authorized funds for the military -- there was no delay. Just because the President said he'd veto the bill is no reason for you not to vote your conscience. Instead, you jump in line -- marching to the cliff with the other Republican lemmings.
Sen. Collins also said she voted against the bill was " because it included a mandatory withdrawal of some troops 120 days after enactment."
Huh? Let me remind you Senator that just a short while ago you voted against the troop surge. Now when you have the opportunity to bring some of those soldiers home, you fall down on the job.
Poor Senator Collins -- who knew that the people of Maine would expect you to be consistent in your voting?
