Want to lose weight? Get smaller plates.

The New York Times recently ran an article about a popcorn eating experiment where folks who received huge buckets of popcorn typically ate lots more than those served merely large portions.

Duh.

Everyone knows that portion sizes have expanded over the years.  That’s partly why there is such an obesity problem in the U.S.

I have a coffee mug at home that I’ve had for 30 years.  It’s half the size of most cups that you buy today.  And if you get one from one of the coffee chains — they’re often even bigger!

The lesson? 

Use smaller plates and glasses to help lose weight.
