Oh sure, I know — you thought last week after the Pats beat the 49ers 30–21 that the Patriots, even without Brady, were going to be a pretty solid team. Right?
Wrong.
This week the Pats were outplayed on offense and defense by the Chargers, losing 30–10 in a game that was not as close as the score makes it appear. In fact, the Pats were never in the game.
Cassel finished with 22 of 38 passes for 203 yards — including an interception. He was also sacked four times. This included being unable to punch in a touchdown from the 1 yard line in four tries during the third quarter.
Ouch.
The Pats defense was scored on three times with pass plays. As I’ve said before, the Pats defense got a pass last year (until the Superbowl at least) due to the high powered offense. This year, the defensive weaknesses are spotlighted. Our secondary just didn’t get it done last night.
Double-ouch.
After the game, Belichick said it all: "The San Diego Chargers were better than the New England Patriots. That's across the board."
Duh.

No one thought Cassell would generate the type of buzz he eventually did. Still, I wonder why the Pats got so little in return.

Gotta be in it to win it. Too bad the Pats were a no show!
