Ice Cream!
You may have seen this AP article in your local paper about the various regional flavors of ice cream.
Here in Maine, we have Grape Nuts Ice Cream made by Giffords Ice Cream (sometimes served with warm maple syrup). I’ve had it — it’s good.
Other local flavors mentioned were:
Blue Moon Ice Cream which is made in Wisconsin and Michigan. It’s supposed to taste something like Fruit Loops.
Date Ice Cream made by Lappert’s Ice Cream of Richmond, California for its store in Palm Springs store.
Honey Sunflower Vanilla Ice Cream which is made by Fjord’s Ice Cream Factory for Dakota’s Best in Rapid City, S.D.
Buckeye Ice Cream which is made in Ohio.
Black Licorice Ice Cream which is made by the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream in Madison, Wisconson.
Red Bean Ice Cream is made by a number of specialty ice cream makers in Hawaii and some mainland Asian restaurants.
Ancho Chili Ice Cream is made by Christina’s Homemade Ice Cream in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s made with mild chili and other ethnic ingredients such as green tea, and spices.
Blueberry Cream Pie Ice Cream is made by Mayfield Dairy Farms in Athens, Tennessee.
Bumbleberry Ice Cream is made by Gifford’s Ice Cream in Skowhegan, Maine. It tastes like flavorful New England pies containing a mixture of raspberries, plums and strawberries.
Whoopie Pie Ice Cream is also made by Gifford’s. It tastes like — well, whoopie pies. If you’re not from Maine, whoopie pies are cream-filled cake sandwiches found in grocery stores, bakeries, gas stations, convenience stores — practically everywhere.
Vanilla and Chocolate are the most popular flavors nationwide. What are your favorite flavors? Do you have a regional ice cream that most folks don’t know about?
