We’ve been waiting since 1984 — when Transformers first came out — for this full action movie. So, was the wait worth it?
You bet.
My son was three years old when Transformers hit the tv screen — and the local toy store. I got them all for him: Optimus Prime, Magatron, Soundwave, Blaster, Bumble Bee, Star Scream — even the later Dynobots (“Me, Grimlock.”) and the massive Ultra Magnus.
So how could I resist going to the movie?
I must say that “Transformers” the movie was better than I anticipated. It was full of pulse-pounding action coupled with just the right amount of campiness that harkens back to the cartoon series.
Shia LaBeouf does a fine job as Sam Witwicky who is early on befriended by Bumble Bee, an autobot yellow Camaro in the movie (though it was a VW in the original cartoon).
For those from a different planet or too young to remember, Transformers are robuts that also turn into other things: typically vehicles or planes. It’s a story of basically good Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, against evil Decepticons, led by Megatron.
In the movie, both groups are searching for the Allspark, a life source to the Transformers. Since Sam has a clue as to its whereabouts, the Transformers – both good and bad — are all searching for him. In the climax, they all find him and it’s once more good vs. evil.
At the end of the movie when Optimus Prime tells Megatron his oft-used line: “”ONE SHALL STAND…ONE SHALL FALL!” you know it’s time for some serious action!
Go see the movie — it’s pure entertainment.
