After the bailout failed, McCain accused Obama and the Democrats of failing to support the plan. “Senator Obama and his allies in Congress infused unnecessary partisanship into the process,” McCain said in a statement to the media during a stop in Iowa.
Excuse me?
Unless my math has suddenly failed me, two-thirds of House Democrats voted in favor of the plan and only one-third of House Republicans did. (In fact, 140 Democrats voted yes and 95 voted no; 65 Republicans voted yes and 133 voted no.)
It’s intersting to note that President Bush has made a public announcement about this financial crisis every day for the last week. Sen. McCain suspended his campaign for a time to roar into Washington to provide his leadership to be sure this bill passed. Yet it’s the Republicans who overwhelmingly voted against the bill.
And this is somehow the Democrats fault? Oh sure, Nancy Pelosi gave a partisan speech when she should have kept her mouth shut. Apparently, this caused some Republicans to get their panties all in a knot.
Please. If a partsian speech is all it takes to have congressman switch votes at the last minute on this important bill, then it’s time for a few folks to grow up.
Clearly President Bush has zero influence in his own party and his approval rating has never been lower. Apparently, McCain doesn’t have much clout with Republicans either….
I wonder if Senator McCain will say and do just about anything to win this election? I hope that he understands what is really going on. Heaven forbid that he’s in his own la-la land where he can calmly ignore the facts while living in “McCain world.”
Heavens knows our country has already experienced eight years of a leader who says and does things as if the facts don’t apply to him.
