When the three heads of the U.S. auto industry fly separate private jets into Washington when asking for a $25 billion bailouit, it’s no wonder that the auto industry is hurting.
Do these guys even have a clue?
And I love how Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), asked them as a symbolic gesture, if they would be willing to work for $1 a year, as Nardelli (of Chrysler) has offered to do.
“I don’t have a position on that today,” demurred Richard Wagoner (2007 total compensation: $15.7 million).
“I understand the intent, but I think where we are is okay,” said Alan Mulally ($21.7 million).
So the heads of GM and Ford are making nearly $16 million and $22 million annually, but they’re not about to do anything that would reduce their own salary — in fact, they’re just fine … thank you very much.
Sorry fellas, I’m with Congress on this one. Time to jump on your corporate jets and fly back to your companies and get yourself out of this mess.
