The Portland Press Herald had an article today about the decline in passengers at the Portland International Jetport. It read as follows:
Jetport numbers decrease for third consecutive month
The Portland International Jetport says the number of passengers in March dropped for a third consecutive month.
Greg Hughes, the airport’s marketing director, says the number of passengers was 132,959, or a drop of 1 percent from a year ago.
I wrote about this decline in business over two months ago here, and expressed my surprise at the time that the jetport director, Paul Bradbury, indicated that the jetport was “in good shape.”
In the Feb 13th article quoted in the Press Herald, Bradbury said that “he does not see a long-term downward trend.”
He indicated that January is traditionally a slow month and that what happens in the next two months “will foreshadow the year to come.”
“That will tell us if the market is dropping,” he said.
What do you say now Mr. Bradbury?
The question is, if someone like me who knows little about the airline industry could predict that jetport business was going to continue to decline, why couldn’t the jetport director see it coming?
Update: Isn’t it interesting that passenger numbers are up in Bangor for the second straight month!
Good information about Jet.
